Good News 360 Church Leaders Conference 2026: Chapter-by-Chapter Expositional Series

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As we continue our journey through the Book of Hebrews in preparation for the 41st Good News 360 Church Leaders Conference 2026, we arrive at one of the most encouraging chapters in the New Testament. Hebrews Chapter 4 calls believers to enter God's promised rest while reminding us that we have a compassionate and victorious High Priest who understands our every weakness.

Following the warning against unbelief in Hebrews 3, the writer now urges God's people not to repeat Israel's failure in the wilderness. Instead, we are called to respond to God's Word with faith, persevere in our walk with Christ, and confidently draw near to the throne of grace.

For every pastor, missionary, evangelist, Bible teacher, and Christian worker, Hebrews 4 offers both a challenge and a source of lasting encouragement.

The Promise of God's Rest Still Stands

The chapter begins with an important reminder:

"Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (Hebrews 4:1)

God's promise of rest had not expired. Although the generation that left Egypt failed to enter the Promised Land because of unbelief, God's invitation remained open.

The writer explains that hearing God's Word alone is not enough. Israel heard God's promises, yet they did not profit from them because they failed to respond in faith (Hebrews 4:2).

The same principle applies today.

Church attendance, Bible knowledge, ministry experience, and theological education are valuable, but they cannot replace genuine faith and wholehearted trust in Christ. God's Word transforms lives only when it is received with believing hearts.

The Rest Found in Christ

Throughout Hebrews 4, the writer points beyond Joshua and the land of Canaan to a greater and lasting rest.

This rest is ultimately found in Jesus Christ.

  • It is the rest of salvation for those who trust in Him.
  • It is the daily rest of depending upon God's grace rather than our own strength.
  • And it points forward to the eternal rest believers will enjoy in God's presence forever.

Many who serve in ministry know what it is to experience physical exhaustion, emotional burdens, and spiritual battles. Hebrews reminds us that true rest is not found in changing our circumstances but in trusting the finished work of Christ.

The Lord calls weary believers to rest in His faithfulness, His promises, and His sufficient grace.

The Living and Powerful Word of God

One of the most familiar passages in Hebrews is found in verses 12 and 13:

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword..." (Hebrews 4:12)

God's Word is not merely ancient literature or religious instruction. It is living, active, and effective.

  • It penetrates the deepest parts of the human heart.
  • It exposes motives.
  • It reveals hidden sin.
  • It brings conviction, correction, encouragement, and hope.

No human heart is hidden from the Lord. Every thought, every desire, and every intention lies open before Him.

For those who preach and teach the Scriptures, this passage is both humbling and encouraging. We do not rely on human wisdom or persuasive methods to change lives. God accomplishes His work through His living Word.

Faithful exposition of Scripture remains the greatest need of the Church in every generation.

Our Great High Priest

The chapter reaches its climax with one of the greatest encouragements found anywhere in Scripture:

"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession." (Hebrews 4:14)

Jesus Christ is not only our Savior; He is our Great High Priest.

Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, His ministry is perfect and eternal.

  • He has entered heaven itself.
  • He continually represents His people before the Father.
  • His work is complete, and His intercession never ceases.

This truth gives believers every reason to remain steadfast in their faith.

A Savior Who Understands Our Weakness

Perhaps no verses have comforted weary believers more than Hebrews 4:15–16:

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities..." (Hebrews 4:15)

Jesus understands every weakness we face.

  • He experienced hunger.
  • He knew sorrow.
  • He endured rejection.
  • He faced temptation.
  • He suffered deeply.

Yet He remained without sin.

Because of His perfect obedience and sacrificial death, He is able to sympathize with His people without sharing in their sin.

What wonderful encouragement for those serving in difficult places.

Our Savior understands lonely ministry. He understands disappointment. He understands persecution. He understands physical weakness, emotional burdens, and spiritual warfare. Nothing we experience is unknown to Him.

Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace

Hebrews 4 concludes with one of the greatest invitations in all of Scripture:

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)

Because Christ is our Great High Priest, believers have continual access to God.

  • We come not because of our own righteousness but because of His.
  • We come not in fear of rejection but with confidence in His finished work.

Every servant of Christ needs this reminder.

The demands of ministry often leave us weary and discouraged. Yet God's answer is not simply to work harder. He invites us to come continually to His throne, where mercy is freely given and grace is abundantly supplied.

  • No burden is too heavy.
  • No temptation is too great.
  • No weakness is beyond His help.
  • His grace is always sufficient.

Why Hebrews 4 Matters for Church Leaders Today

The Church needs leaders who know how to rest in Christ before they labor for Christ.

Healthy ministry flows from abiding in the Savior rather than striving in our own strength.

Hebrews 4 reminds us that faithful ministry is sustained through confidence in God's promises, submission to His Word, and continual dependence upon our Great High Priest.

As we seek to build the next generation in faith, we must teach believers to treasure God's Word, persevere in faith, rest in Christ's finished work, and continually draw near to the throne of grace.

These truths strengthen believers not only for ministry but for every season of life.
